CBSE Suggested Open Book Exams: Central Board of Secondary Education i.e. CBSE has proposed to conduct open book examination for classes ninth to twelfth. Even before this, the board had experimented with OBE exam for classes 9 and 11 for three years. This was done between the years 2014-15 to 2016-17. Once again the board has brought a proposal to conduct OBE exam for classes 9 to 12. This has been stated in the Indian Express report.
Plan to do first pilot run
According to the report, the board first wants to run a pilot run of this method in some specific schools. There is a plan to run this pilot run for English, Maths and Science subjects of classes nine and ten. Also, a plan is being made to do the same for English, Maths and Biology subjects for classes 11 and 12.
Trial will happen first
This is being done to see the reaction of the stakeholders and also to check how much time it takes for the students to complete the test by taking the test in this manner. Before the pilot run or final implementation, how will this method of trial or test work, whether it will work or not. What practical problems will arise in this etc.
Previous experience was not special
When open book examination was organized for classes nine and eleven between 2014 and 2017, it did not get a good response. The student community and academicians had given negative response regarding this. It is possible that a pilot run of this method can be done in some selected schools in the months of November-December this year.
What are open book exams?
In open book exam, students are allowed to carry books, notes, reference material with them. They can take them with them to the exam hall and can give the exam with their help during the exam.
